A decommission is a logistics project wrapped around a security problem. Racks have to come out on a schedule someone else set, on a floor you have to hand back clean, while every data-bearing device in the room stays accounted for from the moment it is unracked to the moment it is destroyed.
We run the whole scope from our Arlington facility: audit, de-rack, sanitize or destroy, haul it back, shred it on our own equipment, recover the materials, and hand you a serialized report that reconciles against your asset register.

The decommission sequence
Discovery and audit
Site walk, rack elevations, asset counts, data-bearing device inventory, access and dock constraints, union and escort requirements, target dates.
Statement of work
Scope, method per media type, staffing, schedule, material recovery estimate and net position. Approved before anyone touches a rail.
Data sanitization
NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2 Clear, Purge or Destroy — selected per media type. On-site destruction available where policy requires media never to leave the building.
De-rack and removal
Systematic teardown, scanned and logged at the point of removal, palletized and sealed for transport.
Transport under custody
Documented custody transfer, GPS-tracked vehicles, sealed loads.
Shredding and materials recovery
Hardware is destroyed on our own industrial shredder and separated into recoverable material streams under R2v3 — not brokered on to a third party.
Reporting
Serialized asset report, Certificates of Destruction, settlement statement and environmental diversion figures.

Data Center Decommissioning — common questions
What is data center decommissioning?
The controlled removal of IT and supporting infrastructure from a facility or a portion of one — auditing what is there, sanitizing or destroying every data-bearing device, de-racking and removing hardware, processing it for materials recovery, and documenting the whole chain so the organization can prove what happened to each asset.
How long does a data center decommission take?
Driven by scale, access and data-handling requirements. A single cage or a small server room is usually days. A full data hall runs weeks. On-site destruction, escort requirements, restricted dock hours and after-hours-only access all extend the schedule — which is why the discovery phase exists.
How much does data center decommissioning cost?
It is a net number, not a gross one. Labor, logistics, destruction and processing are costs; the recoverable material in the hardware is a credit against them. Copper-dense infrastructure — cabling, bus, transformers, UPS plant — moves the number in your favour. Light, low-metal equipment generally carries a net cost. We quote both sides explicitly before anything moves.
Can drives be destroyed on site?
Yes. We bring shredding and degaussing equipment to your facility so media is destroyed before it leaves the building, with your representative witnessing. This is the standard for organizations whose policy prohibits data-bearing media leaving the premises intact.
What documentation do we receive?
A serialized asset report listing every tracked device with make, model, serial number and final disposition; Certificates of Destruction for data-bearing media; a settlement statement for recovered materials; and an environmental diversion report. Audit-ready as delivered.
Do you work outside DFW?
Yes — Houston, Austin, San Antonio and the rest of Texas. DFW is our home market and gets the fastest mobilization.
